Treasury predicts £13.2bn R&D spend for year ahead

Its chief scientist Philip Duffy describes R&D as a ‘critical’ element for Covid-19 recovery

The UK government is expected to spend £13.2 billion on science in 2021, the chief scientific adviser to the Treasury has said.

Speaking at a House of Commons Science and Technology Committee hearing on 5 June, Philip Duffy said maintaining research and development was “probably one of the most critical elements of delivering an effective recovery” from the pandemic.
