US science chief urges strong link between UKRI and Aria

Director of US national science funder argues basic and translational research funders should share missions

The head of the United States’ national science funding agency has said that the Advanced Research and Invention Agency should be “strongly tied” to UK Research and Innovation.

Aria has been pitched by the UK government as a stand-alone, £800 million funding agency for high-risk, high-reward projects with the potential for delivering game-changing technologies.
