Universities are only ‘potentially relevant’ stakeholders for bids to £4.8 billion fund

The latest UK budget has revealed details about government plans for a major Levelling Up Fund, which seem to confirm researchers’ fears that it will lack an R&D dimension.

Members of parliament will be expected to pick one bid each to be considered for tens of millions in funding from the government’s ‘Levelling Up Fund’. But universities’ hopes for significant research support look likely to be dashed.
