Departure from industrial strategy ‘worrying’ and ‘unnecessary’

R&D sector concerned as government disbands Industrial Strategy Council and publishes new Plan for Growth

Policy experts have condemned plans to disband the government’s Industrial Strategy Council as the government seeks to distance itself from its own 2017 industrial strategy.

Business secretary Kwasi Kwarteng informed the 16 members of the council on 3 March that their services were no longer required as “the government has decided to mark a departure from the industrial strategy brand” with the publication of the Treasury’s Building Back Better: our Plan for Growth.
