Chemist Linda Knutsen will pinpoint “transformative technologies” for use by UK armed forces
The Ministry of Defence’s science laboratory has appointed Linda Knutsen as the head of a newly formed Exploration Division focusing on developing ‘transformative technologies’ for the military.
As head of the new division at the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, she will oversee the use of artificial intelligence and analytics to pinpoint what the MoD calls transformative technologies—such as quantum cryptography and telepresence systems. The agency will then incubate the most promising of these to “imagine entirely new systems” for use by the UK’s armed forces and security forces, the government said on 1 June.
