Business committee hits out at decision to scrap 2017 Industrial Strategy

The government’s decision to scrap the independent Industrial Strategy Council was a “retrograde step” that removed valuable independent scrutiny of UK industrial policy, a group of MPs has said.

According to a report from the cross-party Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy committee, a lack of industrial strategy oversight risks “expanding the gap” between government and business at a time when urgent productivity improvements, economic growth and decarbonisation is required.
