Sector leaders say high-profile innovation and culture strategies continue pattern of silence on delivery

The government’s long-awaited strategies on innovation and research culture have been met with scepticism by policy experts, as the plans fuelled complaints that two years of Boris Johnson’s leadership have delivered promising rhetoric on R&D but little concrete progress.

Over the past week the prime minister (pictured, right) and his government have made more ambitious promises to boost the sector, notably via the two strategies launched by business secretary Kwasi Kwarteng (pictured, left) on 22 July.
