UK universities ‘may have become unmoored from place’

   

Sheffield Hallam vice-chancellor says universities “should fundamentally be institutions that take their place seriously”

There is a sense that “universities have become in some ways unmoored from their place” and think of themselves as global rather than local institutions, the vice-chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University has said.

Speaking at a Conservative Party conference fringe event on the civic role of universities, Chris Husbands said the sector had “all sorts of stories about the role we want universities to play in our society”.
