UK development research funds hailed despite uncertain futures

Successes of GCRF and Newton Fund detailed in government-commissioned reports amid warnings over budget cuts

Government-commissioned evaluations have strongly endorsed the UK’s two major international development research funds, while raising concerns that the future of both funds remains unclear.

The Global Challenges Research Fund and the Newton Fund are largely successful in their aim to support equitable partnerships between researchers in the UK and those in low- and middle-income countries, according to the new reports.
