Darpa’s Peter Highnam withdraws from upcoming post due to ‘personal reasons’, UK government confirms
Peter Highnam has decided not to take up the post of chief executive of the UK’s Advanced Research and Invention Agency for “personal reasons”, in what has been described as a “serious blow” to plans to set up the nascent funder.
Highnam (pictured), who is currently deputy director of the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (Darpa), on which Aria is broadly modelled, was announced as the first leader of the £800m agency for “high-risk, high-reward research” on 1 February.
