Political leaders around the world struggled with understanding the growth pattern of infections during the Covid-19 pandemic, according to Patrick Vallance, the UK government’s chief scientific adviser.

Vallance was speaking at a conference on artificial intelligence held by the Alan Turing Institute, the UK’s national institute for data science and AI, on 22 March.
