Thomas Waite to replace Jonathan Van-Tam as one of England’s most senior government medics

The UK government has appointed infectious disease specialist Thomas Waite as deputy chief medical officer for health protection in England.

Waite (pictured) replaces Jonathan Van-Tam, who stepped down from the role on 31 March 2022 after playing a significant role in the UK’s response to Covid-19.
