Ministers leap to defence of PM ahead of confidence vote

Universities minister and business secretary among those to voice support for Boris Johnson

Universities minister Michelle Donelan and business secretary Kwasi Kwarteng are among the MPs who have voiced support for Boris Johnson ahead of a vote of no confidence in the prime minister.

Johnson will face the vote on Monday evening after the threshold of 54 letters from Conservative MPs seeking his departure was reached, Graham Brady, chair of the 1922 Committee, has said.
