UK’s aid-funded R&D future ‘uncertain for everybody’

           

Leader of coordinating body for ODA research funding reserves judgment as sector waits for news

Uncertainty over aid-funded R&D still plagues those working in this area while they wait to see if the government’s new funding model can be seen as positive, the head of an organisation tasked with amplifying the impact of the UK’s international development research has warned.

Earlier this year, Research Professional News revealed that the government was scrapping its flagship R&D funds supported through Official Development Assistance—the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) and the Newton Fund—and replacing them with a funding model for international research collaborations which would combine ODA and non-ODA funds.
