‘Rip up the rule book on R&D’, urges ex-science minister

Chris Skidmore weighs in on Conservative leadership contest as he voices support for Liz Truss

Former science minister Chris Skidmore has called on the next prime minister to “rip up the rule book when it comes to R&D”, as he voiced his support for Liz Truss as the next Conservative Party leader.

Skidmore, who held the science ministerial brief twice between 2018 and 2020, publicly switched his support from Rishi Sunak to the foreign secretary earlier this month, saying he was “increasingly concerned” by the campaign’s “changing position” on policy.
