‘No plans’ for AI-specific legislation

Government official admits there will be no AI bill as criticism steps up

A UK government official has admitted there are currently no plans for AI-specific legislation.

Following the King’s speech earlier in the week, chair of the House of Commons Science, Innovation and Technology Committee, Greg Clark, expressed “disappointment” that there was no mention of an AI bill. Without AI-specific legislation, the UK could be left behind in its bid to be a global leader in the technology, he warned.
