UK chancellor unveils over £750m for R&D initiatives this year

Autumn statement: Millions for science, four new investment zones and simpler R&D tax credits

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has announced hundreds of millions of pounds worth of what appears to be new funding for R&D this year, in addition to ambitious pledges to be funded over the next few years.

Many of the pledges and the cash are to be realised over the next few years, though they include “ambitious investments of over £750 million in UK R&D this financial year”, according to the Treasury.
