First cross-sector survey of R&D workforce reveals lack of diversity

Twenty-nine per cent of UK workforce are women, while 2 per cent are Black, survey finds

The UK’s first cross-sector survey of the country’s research and innovation workforce has revealed an under-representation of women and a lack of racial diversity.

According to the 2022 survey—published by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology on 2 March—just 29 per cent of people working in research and innovation are women, with men making up 71 per cent.
