UK “lags behind” commercially successful research-intensive nations, review says and calls for overhaul

UK R&D is in “danger” due to underinvestment from successive governments, according to a long-awaited government-commissioned review conducted by Nobel laureate Paul Nurse.

Published on 6 March, the review identifies “long-standing and serious” problems in the UK R&D system that threaten to undermine the government’s “science superpower” ambitions, with a lack of investment identified as a major problem.
