‘Deep disappointment’ over dropped £300m maths R&D boost

                   

As ministers downscale funding pledge, mathematical societies worry about future funding within wider UKRI portfolios

Mathematical societies have urged the government not to neglect mathematical sciences after more than half of a £300 million pot promised for research in the field failed to materialise.

The investment in the Additional Funding Programme for Mathematical Sciences was first promised by former prime minister Boris Johnson in January 2020.
