Opponents of climate-modifying research call programme director’s plan ‘dangerous and ill-informed’

Critics have poured scorn on plans to channel millions in public money through the government’s new flagship R&D funder to research on controlling the climate. Their warnings clash with proponents who say the work is a moral duty in the face of a warming planet.

In December the government’s £800 million Advanced Research and Invention Agency released plans detailing potential research on manipulating climate and weather that might be used in the event of “abrupt changes to the Earth’s climate”.
