Proposal for new ship to strengthen UK Arctic research among discarded select committee recommendations

The government has rejected calls by MPs for a new polar research vessel to boost UK Arctic capability, and also turned down their proposals for better strategic coordination of research around the North Pole.

The £200 million polar research vessel, the RRS Sir David Attenborough, made her maiden voyage in November 2021 but spends most of her time in the Antarctic (pictured).
