Over 50 ERC winners have now left the UK, as government hopes to reverse fortunes
The UK has lost more than 50 prestigious European Research Council grants since the country left the EU, Research Fortnight can reveal. More losses are expected in the coming months as the funder completes the last round of grants for which UK-based winners were ineligible due to Brexit.
The latest figures come as science secretary Michelle Donelan (pictured) launched a “campaign blitz” to get UK researchers to bid for grants from the €95.5 billion (£82bn) EU R&D programme Horizon Europe, of which the ERC is part.
