Rush to spend £218m science department ODA budget

Universities given £47 million in top-ups, with £26m to spend on international development by April

Funding for international development research from the science department is poised to start flowing again, including top-ups to university direct grants worth a total of £47 million.

The shuttering of long-term government funding programmes for research partnerships with low and middle-income countries in early 2022 left a gap in funding, with the aid budget under pressure from crises in Afghanistan and Ukraine.
