Having left government citing financial woes, former minister takes paid role with Eastern Powerhouse

Former science minister George Freeman is taking a paid role as a science and technology adviser to the business group Eastern Powerhouse.

Freeman stepped down from his ministerial role in November 2023, a decision he later explained was partly due to increases in his mortgage costs, which he “simply couldn’t afford to pay on a ministerial salary”.
