Peers launch inquiry into engineering biology

House of Lords committee to examine technology that is key to government’s science superpower ambition

A House of Lords committee has launched an inquiry into engineering biology—one of the government’s so-called “critical technologies” for achieving its science superpower ambition.

In the government’s plan to become a science superpower, it identified engineering biology as one of five key technologies that the UK should focus on. Since the plan’s publication in February 2023, the government has ramped up its efforts in engineering biology, which include a commitment to invest £2 billion in the area in the next 10 years.
