Researchers could leave for the EU if data access is not assured, says peer

Proposed legislation to create a data protection framework for the UK following Brexit could fuel a “brain drain of academics” to Europe, crossbench peer Beeban Kidron has said.

Speaking in a debate about the Data Protection and Digital Information bill in the House of Lords on 15 April, Kidron raised concerns that researchers in the UK might not be able to access data relating to online security that are available to their EU counterparts.
