Reports of Whitehall preparations to mitigate impact on research welcomed
Reports that the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology has drawn up contingency plans to protect research if universities go bust have prompted concern—but also relief.
The Times reported on 17 May that Dsit officials have prepared “contingency plans for universities in the event that they fail which would protect researchers and their research”. The news comes amid a crisis in university finances and while the government has been mulling restrictions to graduate visas.
