Leaders agree to launch global network of AI safety institutes

Artificial intelligence summit co-hosted by South Korea and UK delivers new initiatives and research grants

Global leaders who gathered at an artificial intelligence summit in Seoul, South Korea, this week have agreed to launch an international network of AI safety institutes and have identified three priorities for joint work.

Last year, the UK launched the AI Safety Institute, which is backed with £100 million in public funding. The US, Japan and Singapore have since set up similar institutes focusing on AI safety, the UK government said in a statement.
