Former vice-chancellor raises concern that July date could impact students’ influence
The timing of the 2024 UK general election could make it difficult for students to influence the outcome of the vote, experts have said.
Prime minister Rishi Sunak announced on 22 May that the 2024 election will be held on 4 July, just after many universities conclude their examination period. While some students remain in their university towns all year round, many return to their hometown once exams end.
