Government urged to establish new R&D institute as UK risks ‘losing out’ on biotech boom
The UK government has been urged to set up a national institute for engineering biology, which it has picked as one of its five critical technologies to back.
A 15 May report from centre-right think tank Onward says that while the UK has strengths in the discipline, it still risks losing out on benefiting from the rapid growth of the sector. The country needs to address key blockers that it faces in advancing engineering biology, such as in data and facilities, according to the report.
