Mayoral election results: What’s on offer for research

Commitment to research and science in 2024 mayoral manifestos varied widely

Winning metro mayors’ R&D and science goals include securing local control of funding to boost innovation and harnessing the “power of AI for good” in their city regions, along with backing to rejoin the EU’s Erasmus+ academic mobility programme.

Following elections on 2 May, 10 metropolitan mayors were elected across England, including in Greater London, Greater Manchester and the Liverpool City Region.
