Conservatives recommit to £22 billion spending pledge in a manifesto weak on new R&D commitments
The Conservative Party has recommitted to its pledge of spending £22 billion a year on R&D, arguably turning off the taps on continued real-terms increases of the sort seen in the last parliament.
On 11 June, the Conservatives released their manifesto for the upcoming general election. It is weak on new R&D commitments, and prime minister Rishi Sunak did not mention R&D in his manifesto launch speech.
