Northern Irish universities to benefit from £37.7m boost

Top-up payments for universities as students receive £500 each for Covid-19 pandemic disruption

A £37.7 million support package for Northern Ireland’s higher education sector will see universities receive more than £7m to help them create safe research environments and release students from their accommodation.

On 4 February Northern Ireland’s minister for the economy Diane Dodds announced £4.1m to help universities set up Covid-secure learning and research, and a further £3.1m “to compensate universities for lost income arising from rental pauses and releasing students from accommodation contracts”.
