Woman set to join Commons science committee

Vicky Ford MP, a former Member of the European Parliament who has been a strong advocate for the UK’s continued participation in European Union science programmes, has been elected to the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee.

Conservative MP for Chelmsford, Ford will join eight MPs whose appointments to the committee were announced on 12 September. Two further slots remain open on the committee—to be filled by one Labour and one Conservative MP.

Ford announced her election to the post in a tweet on 13 September, following a backlash against the all-male raft of appointments to the committee earlier this week.
