The UK is to have a new research integrity committee with oversight of university use of government funding and the power to apply sanctions to offenders.
Science minister Chris Skidmore confirmed the plans in a letter to the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee, published by the committee on 1 July.
The government tasked its UK Research and Innovation funding body with looking into the possibility of such a body last year.
