Former science minister says new agency could do damage to the rest of the system

Setting up the government’s proposed new funding agency, modelled on the US Advanced Research Projects agency, outside of UK Research and Innovation risks damaging the existing research system, former science minister Jo Johnson has warned.

The £800 million agency for “high-risk, high-reward research” is expected to launch some time in 2021, but the government has yet to provide details on how it will fit within the UK’s research and innovation landscape.
