Peer says exempting Aria from FOI rules ‘engenders mistrust’

House of Lords hears arguments for more public accountability for proposed Advanced Research and Invention Agency

Exempting the Advanced Research and Invention Agency from the Freedom of Information Act would “engender mistrust” and “sow the seeds of suspicion” over the planned £800 million funder, a peer has warned.

The government has previously defended the exemption of the “high-risk, high-reward” research funder from FOI requests, arguing that it was not the “right way to provide scrutiny” given the small number of staff at the agency.
