Business secretary is keen for resolution but warns of ‘unprecedented pressure’ on finances

The business secretary says he is still trying to negotiate “a good settlement” for the UK’s national research funding agency for the 2021-22 financial year amid “unprecedented pressures” on government finances.

Kwasi Kwarteng, who was appointed secretary of state for business, energy and industrial strategy in January, told the House of Commons Science and Technology Select Committee that BEIS was “very keen to get some sort of resolution pretty soon” for UK Research and Innovation ahead of the start of the next financial year on 6 April.
