Treasury official avoids confirming that previously set target for 2026-27 remains in place
The UK’s target to spend £22 billion of public money on R&D by 2026-27 seems to have been dropped, after a government official avoided a chance to confirm its continuation this week.
The target was originally set by Boris Johnson’s government to be reached by 2024-25, but it was subsequently delayed by then chancellor Rishi Sunak to 2026-27 amid tight finances resulting from the Covid-19 crisis.
