Funder’s chief executive says current panel structure means interdisciplinary projects struggle to find a home
The chief executive of UK Research and Innovation has announced plans to pilot “fully open” research calls as she admitted the funder has not yet fully delivered on its objective to encourage interdisciplinary working.
Speaking during a House of Lords Science and Technology Committee session on delivering a UK science and technology strategy, Ottoline Leyser said the funder had been “extraordinarily good” at assembling interdisciplinary teams to tackle specific challenges, especially during Covid-19.
