The Scottish Funding Council has abandoned plans to create a single knowledge exchange office for Scotland, opting instead to invest £4 million in developing existing structures and establishing a policy forum.
The forum will advise the SFC, the Scottish government, Scottish Enterprise, and Highlands and Islands Enterprise on how to support innovation between Scottish universities and businesses.
“I think the policy forum has an opportunity to provide a good coordinating framework for knowledge exchange in Scotland, and has the potential to achieve a better understanding between research users and the universities,” says Steve Beaumont, vice-principal for research and enterprise at the University of Glasgow. He adds that he lobbied for it to be established.
