Independent Scotland should be able to use UK research councils

If Scotland becomes independent it should continue to subscribe to the UK research councils rather than building a research system from scratch, Kieron Flanagan, a science policy expert from the University of Manchester, has recommended.

Writing in The Guardian’s ‘Political Science’ blog he was responding to an opinion article in Nature by Colin Macilwain, editor of Research Fortnight’s sister publication Research Europe, which argued that Scottish science is ready to go at it alone.
