The Scottish government has announced it will invest £8.9 million in a manufacturing centre for the aerospace and automotive industries, as a first step towards a National Manufacturing Institute.

The Lightweight Manufacturing Centre, to be run by the University of Strathclyde’s Advanced Forming Research Centre in Inchinnan, will be set up in the former Doosan Babcock facility in Westway, Renfrew, according to a statement issued by the Scottish government on 19 June.

Of the £8.9m, £3.9m will be allocated by the Scottish government, £3.4m by Scottish Enterprise, and £1.6m by the Advanced Forming Research Centre.
