Scotland launches consultation on inequality

A consultation on the extent to which public bodies will be legally required to put poverty and inequality reduction at the heart of their decision-making has opened in Scotland.

Public bodies in Scotland will be subject to a socioeconomic duty to make decisions based on these challenges. On 18 July, the Scottish government opened a consultation on the best way to apply the duty.

It proposes to place the duty on various bodies, including local authorities, NHS Health Scotland, Scottish Enterprise, Education Scotland and the Student Awards Agency for Scotland.
