Real-terms drop in funding for universities “putting Wales at a disadvantage”, warns Senedd committee
A real-terms decline in quality-related research funding handed out to universities in Wales has prompted members of the Senedd to call for action from the Welsh government.
In late 2023, the Senedd’s Economy, Trade, and Rural Affairs Committee carried out an inquiry into research, development and innovation in Wales. In a report published on 9 May, committee chair Paul Davies (pictured) said it had found “some critical issues for the higher education sector”.
