UK business invested £14 billion in scientific research and development protected by intellectual property rights in 2008—rising from just under £8bn in 1990, says a report commissioned by the Intellectual Property Office.
The report, The Role of Intellectual Property Rights in the UK Market Sector, was published on 8 July and finds that the total investment in businesses covered by intellectual property rights, which was £65bn in 2008, has more than doubled since 1990.
