The Health Research Authority will be responsible for approving research-related use without consent of confidential NHS patient information from 31 March 2013.
As part of the change, the HRA will convene a confidentiality advisory group. It will take on the responsibilities of the Ethics and Confidentiality Committee, to which applications are currently submitted.
