QinetiQ to lead creation of military materials hub

The Ministry of Defence’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory has awarded a £11.7 million contract for a consortium led by defence contractor QinetiQ to set up a national facility for materials research.

The consortium, which includes BAE Systems, the National Physical Laboratory and several UK universities, will build the facility in Farnborough and Pershore. This “national hub”, which is to be fully operational by April 2013, will be open to UK companies and universities to conduct defence materials research.
