New climate change committee chairman confirmed

Conservative peer John Gummer has been confirmed chairman of the Committee on Climate Change. This follows a successful pre-appointment hearing on 4 September and approval from the House of Commons Energy and Climate Change Committee on 11 September.

Making the announcement, energy secretary Ed Davey praised Gummer’s experience and knowledge of the sector: “[Gummer] has a major contribution to make to the climate change agenda, and I look forward to working with him as we move into critical period on climate change issues both at home and abroad.”
